The file extension 3G2
is a 3rd Generation
Partnership Project 2
(3GPP2) multimedia file
representing one of the
evolutionary standards
for music delivery
across high-speed,
broadband wireless
networks known as 3rd
generation networks.
Technology continues to
evolve, requiring the
standards used for
streaming of multimedia
files to also evolve.
The 3rd Generation
Partnership Project 2
based these robust 3G2
standards on Apple’s
MPEG-4 standard. File
extension 3G2 is really
just an updated version
of file extension 3GP.
3G2 files can be either
video or audio files
that are transmitted
over 3rd generation
high-speed wireless
networks as well as
certain wireless
devices.
In order to view or
listen to 3G2 files, you
need to have an
appropriate media player
that can handle opening
3G2 files. You can use a
media player like
QuickTime from Apple in
order to open and enjoy
your 3G2 files.
If you can’t open 3G2
files using QuickTime or
a similar compatible
application, make sure
that you have the latest
version of the software.
Not all media players
have adopted the 3G2
standard. As 3G2 files
grow in popularity, you
can expect the remaining
media players to support
file extension 3G2.
Updates, hot fixes, and
patches are often
released to add support
for various new
standards or to address
known issues with the
media player
application.
In addition, 3G2 file
corruption and missing
3G2 file associations
can occur. If your
3G2-compatible media
player can no longer
open 3G2 files, check to
see if the file
association is intact.
Go into Windows Explorer
and right-click a 3G2
file. Click “Open With.”
Now choose “Choose
Default Program.”
Windows displays a list
of recommended media
players. If the media
player you prefer is
listed, click it and
then mark the box that
says, “Always use the
selected program to open
this kind of file.”
File associations get
broken for numerous
reasons ranging from
power surges, unexpected
shutdowns, and file
corruption to damage
done by malware
including viruses and
spyware as well as other
malicious programs.
Corruption can affect
all kinds of files
including file extension
3G2. When .3G2 files
become damaged, they
don’t usually play. A
significant problem with
a file with the file
extension 3G2 can also
cause the media player
you are use to crash
too. Computer crashes
can cause even more file
damage which in turn
creates a vicious and
never-ending cycle of
damage - with each new
crash, further damage to
the computer occurs.
Use the system tools
that come with Windows
to clean up your
computer when you
suspect file corruption
has occurred. You should
use these tools
regularly even if you
aren’t having trouble.
You can find the systems
tools in the All
Programs/Accessories/System
Tools folder.
If you’re sharing 3G2
files with friends and
downloading music and
video files from the
Internet, you must make
sure to protect your
computer from the
malicious programming
that is becoming rampant
these days. Anti-virus
and anti-spyware
programs are an absolute
must for any Internet
user.
